US Military Conducts Deadly Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American military executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Strikes
This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.
Only on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Tactics Amidst Pressure
The administration has encountered increasing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a top official seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the military campaign may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
