Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden championship series following the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.

"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

George Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, ranking him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that situation except for him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance this season.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
