Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' leg setback.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter following an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player stepped on the foot of Jokic, who promptly fell to the floor clutching his knee.
The 30-year-old, that tops the league season in boards and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the game before suffering the setback.
The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the problem.
"Instantly, he understood he was hurt," commented Nuggets coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who is injured, that's difficult, especially somebody as special as him. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, currently, I'm focused just about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing something like that."
