The President Invites Relatives of Shot National Guard Members to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Support
Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to assist public safety in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the administration to suspend asylum applications and cease providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Impact of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” the governor told the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
