The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this charming family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
