The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
