The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage another team on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision in a few years, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. No one within the club might employ it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
