Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
