Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
