A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
