LeBron James's Historic Scoring Streak Concludes, Yet Los Angeles Pull Off Win Against Raptors.
The Lakers star knew his monumental run of putting up 10+ points was in danger. In that crucial moment, though, he wasn't bothered.
The smart move meant distributing the rock – and he executed. Following that play, the legendary streak finished.
James's staggering streak of over 1,200 straight NBA regular season games with 10+ points concluded during a recent game, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader was limited to eight total points during the Lakers' close triumph versus the Toronto Raptors. He provided the decisive pass, finding Rui Hachimura for a three-point shot to win the game.
“Nothing,” James said in response on the record concluding. “The team got the victory.”
An Unselfish Choice Seals the Win
He might have tried to secure the contest – while also extending the streak – on the final possession, but he chose to make the extra pass to Rui stationed in the corner. Rui connected, with LeBron celebrated immediately.
“Just playing the game correctly. Make the smart play,” James explained. “That’s just been my M.O.. It's how I learned to play. I’ve done that for two decades.”
He is very conscious exactly how many points he's scored at all times,” commented the team's head coach the coach. He made the play just as he has countless times.”
The Record's Closing Chapter
LeBron checked back into the contest for the final time at just over five minutes left, the result and the streak up for grabs. At that stage, he had a mere six points from a 3-for-15 performance at that juncture.
He scored with 1:46 left to tie the game and missed a mid-range jumper with one minute to go which could have gotten him into double figures.
He avoided taking another shot – but could have. A teammate found him as time wound down, however, James opted to make the pass instead.
The spirits of the game, if you do it correctly, they often reward you,” Redick stated.
Reflecting on an Unparalleled Record
The record commenced back in January 2007. It was easily the most extended double-digit streak in NBA history: His Airness, Michael Jordan had 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem recorded 787, and Karl Malone recorded of 575 games.
LeBron is such a team-oriented player,” remarked teammate a fellow Laker.
He focuses on playing the sport. He could have shot but given his nature as a player and just who he is as a person, he executed the team play, dished to Hachimura and claimed the game.”
Reaching double digits had long been a formality well before the start of fourth quarters. During James’s streak, he had attained the 10-point mark by the start of the fourth on the vast majority of occasions before this game.
But two such single-digit games after three periods took place just days before: He had nine points going into the fourth against Dallas last week, then had six going into the fourth against Phoenix earlier in the week.
James managed to extend the streak against the Suns. The very next outing, it was over – and he celebrated regardless.
My focus is to make the correct play. That comes naturally, regardless of outcome,” James said. “You make the unselfish play, the basketball gods forever giving back to me.”
