American actor Pat Finn, who was seen in iconic TV shows including Friends, "Seinfeld" and The Middle, has passed away at the age of 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer succumbed at his home in Los Angeles, California on Monday having undergone cancer treatment beginning in 2022, per media reports.

"Pat Finn never met a stranger - just potential friends he had yet to meet," his family stated in a statement.

They continued that he had "embraced life completely - with joy and exuberance".

A Prolific Television Career

Finn's first television role was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the titular character's brother.

He subsequently landed a repeating character on Murphy Brown between 1995 and 1997.

He starred as Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, depicting a host who would assign unpleasant chores to his guests.

During the 90s and 2000s, he appeared as a guest star on several well-known programs, including:

  • The King of Queens
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House

Finn was perhaps best known for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight seasons of the show over nearly a decade.

His cinematic roles include It's Complicated (2009) and "Santa Paws 2".

A Life in Improv

Beyond his acting parts, Finn was an improv performer and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was a professor.

He was a member of a six-person improv troupe called Beer Shark Mice.

"Finn taught, supported, and inspired many learners throughout the years and it would be difficult to find someone anyplace who has an unkind word to say about him," his family wrote.

Offering condolences, colleague and actor Richard Kind remarked there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Consistently upbeat, helping you be funnier and better. A wonderful father and man," he shared on social media.

The actor is leaves behind his partner Donna, three children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
